Sky: ‘It’s decided’ – United’s priority target has told his club he wants Old Trafford move ‘with immediate effect’

Matthijs de Ligt has now informed Bayern Munich that he wants to join Manchester United ‘with immediate effect’, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

A fresh update was shared by Plettenberg this afternoon in which he stated that ‘it’s decided’ by the centre-half, with both clubs now locked in ‘advanced talks’ to get a deal over the line as swiftly as possible.

De Ligt’s agent, Rafela Pimenta, is in direct contact with Bayern chiefs after a verbal agreement was reached between his player and United over a long-term contract at Old Trafford, which will see him reunite with former Ajax coach Erik ten Hag.

It’s thought that the Bundesliga giants will demand around £42.5 million to sanction his exit this summer, two years after their £59m coup from Juventus.

Netherlands’ Euros exit has accelerated negotiations

Fans were expecting progression in the Reds’ pursuit, given that De Ligt exited Euro 2024 last night following the Netherlands’ 2-1 defeat to England. Surprisingly, the 24-year-old did not feature once at the tournament, with Ronald Koeman preferring a partnership of Virgil van Dijk and Stefan de Vrij.

As such, supporters will be hoping that the club can also progress in their negotiations for De Ligt’s compatriot Joshua Zirkzee in the coming days.
