Manchester United are set to complete their first sale of the summer transfer window with Donny van de Beek closing in on a move to Girona.

The 27-year-old failed to settle at Manchester United over the past four years, after being sent on two separate loan spells to Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Van de Beek started just four matches while on loan in Germany last season, and the Bundesliga outfit decided against signing him permanently for £9.5m.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano delivered an update on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday. The reporter used his famous ‘here we go’ phrase to suggest the deal has been given the green light.

United will pocket an initial €500k fixed fee for the Netherlands international, including achievable add-ons that could bring the deal closer to €4m or €5m. Other bonuses could see the deal rise to €15m.

On top of that, United will have a sell-on clause in the deal, meaning they could make more money on Van de Beek in the coming years. That is the only way we can try to make some of the money that we spent on him four years ago.

Van de Beek made 62 appearances during his time at United. It didn’t work out as planned but he has a chance to kickstart his career in Spain.
