Two Manchester United outcasts set to leave Old Trafford

Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood know their days at Manchester United are numbered. It remains to be seen if both players will leave the club permanently this summer, but that will be the club’s intention at the very least.

The Reds cannot afford to keep players on high wages when they’re not playing for the club. That applies mostly to Sancho, who was completely frozen out of the squad in September of last year for calling Erik ten Hag a liar on social media.

Sancho’s public spat with the manager ended up with him being sent on loan to former club Borussia Dortmund in January. While the move undoubtedly helped the winger get his career back on track, the Bundesliga club have yet to make an offer for his signature.

It seems doubtful that the 24-year-old would stay at Old Trafford after Ten Hag signed a new contract extension earlier this week. Sancho would have hoped for a return to United this summer without having to face Ten Hag.

Now, it looks certain that we’ll be starting the new season without Sancho in the squad. It’s a good time to jump on the best Premier League odds before the 2024/25 campaign kicks off.

According to reports in Italy, Juventus have shown interest in Sancho all summer and have decided to be patient in their attempt to recruit the England international. The Old Lady’s biggest concern is that the cost would be too high.

That is why I fear United will be unable to get rid of Sancho this summer and we may need to accept a loan offer.

Sancho needs to leave United

For his own sake, a move away from Old Trafford makes perfect sense unless Sancho cares about money more than his career – in which case Saudi Arabia may appeal to him…

It remains to be seen if he leaves the club permanently or on loan this summer.

Sancho’s career has regressed since his move to United in 2021. United were at fault for awarding him a huge contract, so any initiative from the player was lost.

Reds want Greenwood bidding war

In an ideal world for United, Mason Greenwood attracts a bidding war this summer.

We already know there is interest in Italy, France and Spain – but these clubs need to put their money where their mouth is, if they want to sign Greenwood ahead of the new season.

Greenwood spent last season at Getafe after being told he had no future at United in spite of his legal case being dropped by the CPS in 2023. He enjoyed his season-long stint in Spain and was named Getafe’s player of the year.

According to reports in France, Marseille’s hierarchy have spoken several times with Greenwood, who is attracted by the prospect of moving his career to Ligue 1.

Meanwhile reports in Italy suggest the Lazio president insists on Greenwood, but has not raised the offer of €20m plus 50% future resale. Corriere dello Sport refuse the fact that Marseille have made a better bid for the forward than Lazio and state that all eyes are on whether Greenwood will return to pre-season training at United.

Sancho and Greenwood are due to report at Carrington on Monday. It remains to be seen if they will follow through with that. Neither are very good when it comes to simple instructions.
