Not Welcome: Marseille fans launch Mason Greenwood campaign after £27m offer

Marseille fans have responded angrily to their club’s attempts to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United.

The 22-year-old has been linked with several European clubs following a productive season-loan loan at La Liga side Getafe.

Greenwood’s performances at Getafe led to the forward emerging as a target for Juventus, Lazio, Valencia and Borussia Dortmund.

However, Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are now leading the race, after tabling a formal offer worth £27million and a substantial sell-on fee, as per the Daily Mail.

Greenwood could also leave on loan if Marseille agrees to an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Fans unhappy – #GreenwoodNotWelcome

Marseille fans have quickly expressed their opposition to a deal for Greenwood.

The United forward saw charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour dropped in February 2023.

Greenwood met with United officials on Monday to discuss a summer transfer. The academy graduate will continue to train away from Carrington until he finds he a new club.

Marseille fans on social media have started a #GreenwoodNotWelcome hashtag on social media.

A statement on OM Forum states: “At a time when negotiations for the arrival of Mason Greenwood are announced as becoming increasingly heated, it seems necessary to explain, once again and before the damage becomes irreversible, why this transfer seems inconceivable in view of the values displayed by the club and why it would mean for many of us a red line that would irreparably damage the passion that we have for this club.”
