Manchester United fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief after Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg shared a welcome update regarding Bruno Fernandes.
Rumours of the club captain potentially leaving this summer had gained significant momentum in the past few days, with Fernandes believed to be a primary target for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Following such a turbulent season for United and amidst a period when, as it stands, supporters are none the wiser as to who the manager will be next term, losing Fernandes of all players is an unimaginable prospect.
He’s on the back of winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for the third time in his four seasons at Old Trafford, having played an integral role at the heart of Erik ten Hag’s side yet again in 2023/2024.

Fernandes, 29, also directly contributed to the Reds being crowned FA Cup champions when he set up Kobbie Mainoo with an outrageous no-look, first-touch pass at Wembley. The teenager was able to finish the chance and make it 2-0 against arch-rivals Manchester City.
Bayern put Fernandes interest on ice
This morning, Plettenberg took to X (Twitter) to dispel some of the latest speculation regarding Fernandes and Bayern. He wrote: “Currently, the 29-year-old from Man United is not a hot topic of interest at Bayern, and there’s no need for a player in that position right now, as Jamal Musiala and Thomas Müller are under contract and Xavi Simons is on the list for summer, as reported days ago.”
The skipper is contracted to United until 2026. Should he be involved in any negotiations over a transfer, they’ll likely have to wait until Portugal’s Euro 2024 campaign comes to an end.
