Sofyan Amrabat brother claims Casemiro comments were taken out of context

The brother of Sofyan Amrabat has jumped to social media to explain that his recent comments about Manchester United midfielder Casemiro were taken out of context.

Casemiro’s omission from Manchester United’s starting line-up for the FA Cup final win over Man City led to lots of conversation. That said, there’s also an acceptance that the Brazilian midfielder will be sold this summer.

After the game, it was reported that Casemiro was hurt by Ten Hag’s decision to axe him from the team.

But during an interview with Z Select, Nordin Amrabrat appeared to claim that Casemiro decided to sit in the stands to watch his team-mates.

Nordin said, as quoted by the Daily Mail: “Casemiro was not injured in the FA Cup final. He found out that he wouldn’t start, so he thought to himself, okay I will sit in the stands then. He was fit to play.”

Casemiro being omitted came as a shock. Not because his performances have been good this season, but the fact he played in the previous 10 matches, albeit as a makeshift centre-back.

However, Nordin has since reacted to the interview he did with Z Select and claims his comments on Casemiro were taken out of context.

Nordin wrote via X: “Today during an interview on television it was suggested that my brother only played in the cup final due to an injury to another player. My response to this was pure sopeculation and my only motivation was to defend my brother who was on the field due to his own merit and hard work. My words have been taken out of context, there was no ill intention whatsoever and to suggest another player chose not to play is wrong. I don’t know what happened on the day, so let’s move on from this non-story.”

It wouldn’t be the first time the media blown comments from a footballer out of context.

Amrabat is another player who faces an uncertain future. The Morocco international is likely to return to Fiorentina this summer.
