Bruno Fernandes’ Manchester United future has been at the centre of widespread speculation in recent weeks.
Months ago, the Old Trafford faithful could’ve never predicted that of all the players being linked with moves away from the club this summer, their club captain would be one of them.
Reports have suggested that Bayern Munich are the club most interested in taking on Fernandes’ services as they look to embark on a new era under former Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.
There’s no doubt that the Portugal star slots into almost any top side across Europe. However, would teams be willing to fork out such a high transfer fee if they already have suitable coverage in midfield?
That seems to be the case for Bayern, according to Florian Plettenberg. He claims that Fernandes is ‘not a hot topic’ for the Bundesliga giants, who already have Jamal Musiala and Thomas Muller in their ranks while lining up a pursuit for young talent Xavi Simons.

United mull over fresh contract proposal for Fernandes
Now, HITC has revealed that talks were held between Fernandes, technical director Jason Wilcox and INEOS chief Sir Dave Brailsford regarding the skipper’s future at United.
“It is understood that Fernandes made it clear he wants to stay and is open to signing a new contract, but he wants United to meet his ambitions. We are told that Wilcox outlined the club’s plans both short and long term,” Graeme Bailey writes.
The Portugal star’s agent proceeded to field enquiries from Bayern, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Saudi Pro League sides.
As it stands, the Red Devils board are now considering offering their talisman a new and improved contract to best reflect the integral role he plays in M16. He is fresh off the back of being named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for a third time in his four seasons at the club, yet still ranks behind Casemiro, Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount and Jadon Sancho in the wage list.
His current terms will expire in 2026.
