Bayern Munich in talks with Bruno Fernandes after initial interest

Bruno Fernandes’ future at Manchester United has been thrown into doubt in recent days despite the midfielder stating he would like to stay at the club.

Earlier this weekend, Stretty News exclusively revealed that Fernandes remaining at the club beyond this summer is no longer a certainty, with Bayern Munich throwing themselves into the mix for his signature.

Now, it has emerged that Bayern’s initial interest is stronger than first suspected, with reports from Portugal claiming the Bavarian giants are in talks with Fernandes’ agent.

That’s according to O Jogo, who say that Bayern have taken the first steps to sign Fernandes and that Barcelona could also join the race as the Catalan club have a deep interest in the player.

It’s stated that Fernandes will now focus on Portugal’s Euro 2024 preparations but that his departure from Old Trafford could even be finalised during the month-long tournament.

It’s safe to say that losing Fernandes, the club captain, would be a heavy blow for the Reds in a summer where building around the few things that are worth building around is imperative.

It remains to be seen whether Erik ten Hag remains in charge beyond the summer as we await the outcome of this week’s season review but there are no signs that United, with their current personnel, will be able to deal with the loss of Fernandes.

From a financial viewpoint, Fernandes is United’s highest-valued asset and parting ways with the 29-year-old could fund several incoming transfers.
