Mason Greenwood is expected to leave Manchester United this summer, though it remains to be seen if the forward will leave on loan again or in a permanent deal.
It would be in United’s best interests to sell Greenwood permanently, with his days numbered at the club following an internal investigation into abuse allegations.
Then it depends on whether the clubs interested in signing Greenwood can afford to meet his wage demands on top of United’s asking price. We already know that Getafe don’t have the money required to make it happen, even though the 22-year-old enjoyed himself at the Estadio Coliseum this season.
Greenwood impressed during his time in Spain and won Getafe’s player of the season award.
Following his campaign in Spain with Getafe, Greenwood issued the following statement on his Instagram account: “Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season, thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my teammates and club.
“A bittersweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best.”
According to The Sun, Greenwood’s preference had been to remain in Spain and try to secure a summer move to Barcelona.
It is believed the departure of Xavi has thrown a spanner into the works, so Greenwood is now more likely to move to Italy where he is attracting interest from Juventus, Napoli and Lazio.
The Sun claim Juventus have been watching Greenwood since Christmas. Furthermore, we cited quotes from Fabio Capello urging the forward to consider a move to the Old Lady.
The same report adds that United’s new owners have already decided that Greenwood has no future at Old Trafford. That will come as a relief to those who feared he could return.
