Everton demands could prevent Branthwaite from making United move

Manchester United need to sign a top defender this summer and there has been no shortage of centre-backs linked with a summer move to Old Trafford.

They can’t all be signed – even though I know fans with a preference for reported targets such as Ligue 1 duo Jean-Clair Todibo and Leny Yoro.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite has undoubtedly been linked with United more than any other defender, though.

According to a report by ESPN, Everton’s asking price for Branthwaite this summer could prove to be a ‘stumbling block’ in United’s hope of landing the highly-rated defender.

United are expected to sign two centre-backs this summer and Branthwaite has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most promising defenders.

The Reds are keen to strengthen their options at the back this summer and Branthwaite has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months.

However, it is understood that Everton want at least £70m to consider selling their biggest asset.

United will hope that they can negotiate a better deal than that, knowing that Everton have financial issues after being docked points in the Premier League this season. The Toffees will want to avoid a repeat of that next season.
