A team of Manchester United legends will return to Old Trafford on Saturday 7th September 2024 to face their Celtic counterparts.

Following on from previous legends campaigns, which have seen the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Antonio Valencia and Patrice Evra take on Liverpool in 2022, and the Class of ’92 return for the Treble Reunion in 2019, a team of former Reds will unite to raise money for Manchester United Foundation.

Bryan Robson will once again return as manager of the United legends, facing Celtic’s Paul Lambert in the dugout. The former United captain is a longstanding supporter of Manchester United Foundation and has participated in every legends campaign since the first in 2012.

Robson told club media via ManUtd.com: “Every time I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of these games the competitive edge has always been there. The players might have retired, but they all still want to win and we’ve had some great games down the years. I’m delighted to be managing the team once again.”

Despite having only met in competitive fixtures on four occasions in their histories, the United v Celtic link-up has been a popular choice for testimonials, with Bryan Robson, Brian McClair, Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane all choosing the Glaswegians as opponents for their commemorative match. Each time, the fixtures were strongly supported by fans from both sides, and we’ll be hoping for the same on September 7th in what is sure to be an exciting match with some big names from both clubs.

Robson added: “We’re really excited for this latest match and are hoping to see the United and Celtic fans out in force. They will be in for a great afternoon at Old Trafford, whilst also helping to support the Foundation and its amazing work.”

In May 2022, the legends match against local rivals Liverpool raised over £1.3 million. Once again, all proceeds from this event will go towards the Foundation’s work with young people across Greater Manchester and beyond.
