Erik ten Hag is looking to sign off Manchester United’s 2023/2024 home matches with a much-needed victory against Newcastle United tonight.

He has been granted the returns of Bruno Fernandes, who starts, as well as Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez, who make the bench.

Fans were surprised to see the Reds’ only available centre-forward, Rasmus Hojlund, dropped from the 11. However, Ten Hag has clarified that he is keen to keep the 21-year-old’s fitness levels up ahead of the Premier League’s final day and the FA Cup final.

“We want to keep him remaining fresh,” the manager told Sky Sports prior to kick-off. “It’s a long season for all young players and you see sometimes, his energy levels are dropping. We need to keep him fresh.”

Regarding Casemiro deputising at centre-half again over substitute Willy Kambwala, Ten Hag added: “That [Kambwala not being fit enough to start] is the explanation behind it. Also, Casemiro played some good games. Lately, he had some downfalls [but] we know he can do the job. He has shown that in the past often.”
