Manchester United confirm stalwart centre-half Raphael Varane will leave the club this June

Raphael Varane will depart Manchester United upon the expiration of his contract this June, the club have today confirmed.

The Frenchman is ready to pull the curtains on his Red Devils tenure after three seasons, throughout which he has racked up 93 appearances thus far.

He has played an integral role at the heart of the backline since he arrived from Real Madrid in 2021 and was influential in United’s journey to ending a six-year trophy drought last February with their Carabao Cup triumph.

Reports had already suggested that Varane would not be offered a new deal after United opted against activating his one-year extension last year. Chris Wheeler reports that both parties failed to reach an agreement over new terms to replace his current £340,000-a-week contract.

Varane, 31, has been sidelined with a muscle injury since early April, with his last outing being the defeat at Stamford Bridge.

However, there are hopes that he can return in time to properly bid farewell to the Old Trafford faithful in the side’s remaining three fixtures. There’d be no better send-off than him lifting the FA Cup at Wembley in his last-ever outing as a Red.
