£86m flop is playing his way out of Manchester United plans

Manchester United flop Antony was non-existent despite starting yet another Premier League match.

There was a time this season when I felt Erik ten Hag could be afforded patience with the tricky Brazilian, but not whilst his performance resembled a bottle of Coke gone flat.

The fizz Antony planned to bring to Old Trafford is non-existent. He, in turn, is playing his way out of Manchester United’s plans.

Yet another disappointing signing but we’ve got to give the new recruitment team, led by INEOS, a chance to get their foot under the table. It takes time. They could start by cutting their loses with Antony.

United have Alejandro Garnacho attacking from the left, Rasmus Hojlund feeding on little service through the centre and a big hole vacant on the right. Antony – for the money we paid to sign him – should be that player. But he’s anything but.

Maybe it’s time to consider the sensational talent we’ve got in the academy, or Amad Diallo, but something different before I lose all of my hair like Ten Hag. Bald is best after all…

Manchester United need to move on quickly

With options limited due to injury in the rest of the team, Antony isn’t Ten Hag’s biggest problem right now.

The Brazilian only has himself to blame for making little of the opportunities he has had at United this season.

Antony’s runs in the team this season have only served to convince most people that he’s not up to it – perhaps not now, perhaps not ever.

Let us know in the comments section if you think Antony has a future at Old Trafford.

  1. Ten Hag is just as responsible i couldn’t believe it when he swapped the useless Antony with the equally useless Amrabat with 30 minutes to go then put on Amad and Williams with 10 minutes to go when we were 4-0 down and expect either or both to affect the result

    1. Harsh. Amrabat was the best defensive player during the appearance, he kept the scoreline at a respectable 4 nil by making blocks and sticking his foot in. Nobody else was even sharp enough to get close to the Palace players, just falling over and giving up.

  2. When he came I thought he would be like Ronaldo was. Lots of fancy footwork and little end product. However unlike Ronaldo he never bulked up muscle wise and unlike Ronaldo whose end product got better and better, Anthony is a one trick pony. He is so predictable fir defenders to stop the end product… he does nothing with his right foot.

  3. the fact that ETH coached antony for two years and thought he was good enough to play in the PL is a serious indictment and explains ETH’s struggles.

if united paid 25m he would still be a rip-off. will almost certainly go down as the worst signing united have ever made and probably the worst PL transfer too.

    1. How very dare you Dave. It’s not Anthony’s fault that the officials were wrong among Garnacho being offside against Arsenal

  4. Our worst signing ever. Wouldn’t even have him on the bench and one of the many reasons Tan has to go. His judgment on players is awful.
