Jadon Sancho has been at Borussia Dortmund on loan since January after being frozen out by manager Erik ten Hag.
When Sancho called Ten Hag a liar on social media and refused to apologise, the manager was left with no other choice than to freeze him out. That sort of behaviour is unacceptable at this level, even if the Dutchman’s critics want to suggest otherwise.
The England international put in a stunning display for Dortmund last night in their 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain. The result gives the Bundesliga side the upper hand ahead of a second leg in Paris, and the reaction has led to journalists asking Ten Hag for his thoughts.
The United manager says he is happy to see Sancho playing well on loan and seemingly kept the door open for him at Old Trafford, although I am sure he will still be expecting an apology (which has yet to come).
Sancho has been performing better in recent weeks which has once again raised questions about his long-term United future.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of a trip to Crystal Palace, Ten Hag was quizzed on Sancho. He said (via Manchester Evening News): “So, let’s say this: yesterday he played very good. He is a very good player. Yesterday, he showed by Manchester United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for Manchester United. Which is good. I am happy, happy for Jadon, with his performance yesterday. We will see what is going to happen in the future.”
United’s only solution here is to wash their hands with Sancho. All players can step out of line from time to time, but Sancho has underperformed since his transfer from Dortmund in 2021. He failed to perform under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, not only Ten Hag, and suddenly people think the issue is us.
I think we are talking about a player who is not suited to the standards of the Premier League. We’ve not seen the consistency required to be a starter for United – not to forget one of our highest earners.
