European giants establish keen interest in Mason Greenwood as United outline their transfer valuation

Plenty of Manchester United supporters are warily anticipating how the club plans to handle Mason Greenwood’s return this summer.

Upon the culmination of the 2023/2024 campaign, the forward will again be the Red Devils’ issue to solve.

Any recreation to the disastrous handling of the situation at the beginning of the season would certainly see Sir Jim Ratcliffe in hot water before his tenure as co-owner has even properly begun, so you’d expect that he approaches the topic more sensitively than how John Murtough and Richard Arnold did.

United opted against reintegrating the player back into their squad last summer after leaks had suggested that there were plans in place for him to resume his role in the team, but it was the strong resistance from fans that led to senior figures performing a U-turn on their initial decision and announcing that the player would continue his career away from Old Trafford.

At the time, Greenwood hadn’t played a minute of competitive football since he was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in January 2022 – charges that were subsequently dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew their participation from the case and new material came to light.

Such baggage has left top European clubs reluctant to take on the outcast 22-year-old, especially after watching United’s completely incompetent handling.

However, Juventus are now seemingly impressed with what they’ve seen of Greenwood at Getafe – where he’s scored eight La Liga goals and assisted a further six – and are open to negotiating a permanent deal with his parent club.

Times Sport claims that United are hoping to pocket around £40 million for their academy graduate. They also have the option of activating a one-year extension in his contract, which is currently set to expire in 2025.
