Manchester United’s academy director Nick Cox has hailed the club’s Under-18s after Adam Lawrence’s side were crowned Premier League North champions this afternoon.
The young Reds scooped first place in the northern division after a 2-1 win away at Wolves.
A first-half brace from Gabriele Biancheri secured the memorable win.
United’s U18s will likely take on Chelsea (potential winners of the southern division) in the play-off final to decide who wins the U18s Premier League outright. On top of that, Lawrence and his players have the PL Cup final against Man City to look forward to, so it’s been a memorable campaign for the youngsters.
Cox said (via Manchester Evening News): “I am extremely proud of what Adam Lawrence, the staff and the players have achieved this season. The players have been stretched, with exposure to numerous competitions and age-group games, whilst also supporting the first-team.
“They have consistently risen to each challenge that we have intentionally designed for them and accomplished something really special together. Individual player development is always our primary aim but competing to win under pressure is vital. Both of those objectives have certainly been achieved across the board. Our academy programme creates life changing experiences, and this group of players and staff will remember this achievement wherever their careers take them.”
The Reds were captained by Salford boy teenager Finley McAllister, who goes to United away matches with his mates.
