United are in ‘concrete talks’ with 23 G/A fullback’s management, says transfer expert

Manchester United have long been linked with Bayer Leverkuen’s star fullback Jeremie Frimpong, and this summer could finally be the right time to strike up a deal.

As Leverkusen see out what could be an unprecedented, invincible treble-winning campaign, the board are braced for what may follow – a flurry of transfer approaches from clubs across Europe for several of their standout performers.

Frimpong will, of course, be a part of that. The attack-minded defender has played an integral role at the heart of Xabi Alonso’s project this season, notching a remarkable 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. 16 of those contributions have come in the Bundesliga, where Leverkusen remain unbeaten and can lift the title as early as this Sunday.

The former Manchester City academy star, 23, is now on the shortlist of the likes of United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, with German transfer expert Christian Falk claiming that two of those giants have already begun their pursuit.

Falk talks Frimpong

“Alonso and sporting director [Simon] Rolfes are working on a shared future with Jeremie Frimpong. His contract until 2028 also contains an exit clause,” the journalist revealed in his exclusive Fact Files column with CaughtOffside. “The wing player can go for €40m. The clause would have to be activated before the start of the European Championship in June. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United have registered their interest in the Dutchman. The management of Frimpong is already in concrete talks with United and Bayern.”
