Manchester United take on Bournemouth tomorrow evening in a 5.30pm clash at the Vitality Stadium.
The reverse fixture saw the Cherries make history when they claimed a shock 3-0 win at Old Trafford back in December 2023 – their first-ever victory at the stadium.
United enter Saturday’s meeting on the back of three winless matches, so some supporters will be harbouring concerns over how the side will fare. The Reds have picked up just two points across the 270 minutes, scoring six goals in the process.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth went unbeaten in five games prior to their 2-1 defeat to Luton Town last weekend, which led to Andoni Iraola deservedly being named March’s Premier League Manager of the Month.
Currently sitting 11 points away from fourth, United simply cannot afford to stutter any more in their quest to seal a Champions League spot, no matter how distant of a hope that may be now.
Pundit shares history-making prediction
However, Chris Sutton believes that Iraola’s men have it in them to do the double over the 20-time champions for the first time in their history.
He penned in his BBC Sport column: “Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag claims United should have won their past three games against Brentford, Chelsea and Liverpool, which I think is based on the fact they were ahead each time and could not see it out, but it leaves me wondering which matches he is watching.
“If you look at the Liverpool game as a whole, then they got absolutely battered. Brentford had stacks of chances too and you could argue United were lucky to get back into the game against Chelsea in the first place when Moises Caicedo helped them out with a poor backpass.”
Sutton added: “Bournemouth were brilliant when they won 3-0 at Old Trafford in December, so can they do the double over United? I think they will. Will Ten Hag be United’s manager next season? I am pretty sure he won’t.
“I have had problems getting United scores right because they have got some excellent individual players who keep digging them out of trouble but, as we have seen, they can’t rely on that happening in every game.”
