It’s not often we give the club credit for working on behalf of us fans, but today we take exception as Manchester United are writing to the Premier League to ask for greater consideration to be shown when arranging fixtures.
For far too long now, match-going supporters have been disregarded – and without a voice – by the Premier League and broadcasting companies when dates and times are released for fixtures.
This comes after United were handed a late Bank Holiday Monday night kick-off against Crystal Palace next month, ahead of the end of the season.
United have announced that they will offer free coach travel to supporters making the trip to Selhurst Park on May 6 as they recognise the difficulties fans will face to attend the match. The last direct train back to Manchester will leave London Euston at 9.39pm that evening, which is earlier than the usual 10.03pm service, as per The Athletic.
The club will organise between five and 10 coaches for fans wishing to travel by coach. Furthermore, all ticket holders will be entered into a draw to win a signing United shirt.
United fans recently travelled to London for two late kick-off against Brentford and Chelsea in the space of five days. The lack of consideration is beyond belief and we haven’t even started talking about the amount of fixtures we play each season.
United return to London next week for the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City.
