The players Manchester United could sell to fund a new striker

After struggling for goals this season and last campaign, Manchester United are in desperate need of some attacking reinforcements in the summer.

Wout Weghorst wasn’t the solution last season, and while there have been some impressive performances up top at times, the club has to target more goal-getters to assist Erik ten Hag further.

Manchester United are still some way behind their rivals

Although there have been some encouraging signs at times, Manchester United are still some way behind their domestic rivals. For instance, fantasy football managers rarely include players from the Red Devils. Likewise, football betting odds highlight just how far the team has fallen, with the most successful club in England priced at 16/1 to finish in the top four come the end of the season. A lack of goals is an evident issue, particularly with creative forces like Bruno Fernandes failing to replicate the form he’s shown in previous campaigns.

Of course, some members of the United fraternity don’t regard their Dutch manager as the right man for the job either, but there is a strong argument to suggest that acquiring a striker would make a huge difference to the overall project at Old Trafford. As of today, though, Premiership title odds don’t feature Manchester United, with the likes of Arsenal priced at 11/4 to win the league. Despite spending huge sums of money, United are still lagging behind the competition, particularly up top.

Anthony Martial is a likely candidate United could offload

Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently spent $1.5 billion for a 25% stake in his boyhood club, but in order for the new era to get off to a strong start, a summer of shrewd business needs to be conducted. He is certainly putting his plan in motion already, though, with Manchester United bringing in some respected professionals into influential roles.
While there are already some encouraging developments taking shape at Old Trafford, no matter who is overseeing things, offloading players in order to be able to afford game-changing attacking additions is always a challenge. Anthony Martial is a player who will almost certainly depart the club, though, with his injury issues refusing to budge. For many, his United career should have ended years ago, and at the age of 28, he could still command a big fee.

Marcus Rashford has been linked with a move

After a rather forgettable season, Marcus Rashford’s time at Manchester United could also be up. The England international clearly adores the club, but the pressure on the enigmatic poster boy’s shoulders appears to be getting to him. Should he be made available for transfer, then some huge clubs with big budgets will surely be interested.

Harry Maguire is a big earner

Other significant players who could depart Manchester United and help fund a new striker includes Jonny Evans, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Scott McTominay.
