Erik ten Hag trying to build siege mentality ahead of Liverpool clash

Erik ten Hag is under the pressure to keep his job knowing changes are coming to the football club following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority stake buy-in.

Recent results and performance have let the manager down but so have some of his decisions. We’ve been conceded far too many chances to average teams all season yet has been done tactically in an attempt to address that.

Of course, I am not sitting here pointing the finger of blame solely on Ten Hag because the squad has been depleted by injuries all season. We also overachieved under the Dutchman last season and I fear people are quick to forget that.

Reports on Sunday morning suggest the manager is telling his players to ignore critics who have written them off as ‘no-hopers’.

According to The Mirror, Ten Hag is trying to build a siege mentality ahead of the visit of Premier League contenders and rivals Liverpool.

The Mirror’s Simon Mullock goes on to explain that, “his defiant messages have raised some eyebrows in the dressing room, with Ten Hag continuing to complain that there is nothing wrong with his methods and that he has been given no support from the new regime being put into place by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.”

It doesn’t help that United have suffered a club record-equalling 12 Premier League defeats with eight games remaining, but Ineos must remember that this club has lack stability for a very long time. We need to restore that and Ten Hag could still be the man to lead the way as manager.

The report adds that Ten Hag is “confident” that he will be given time to fix issues with his squad and that he deserves to be shown a degree of patience after qualifying for the Champions League and winning the Carabao Cup in his first season in charge.

Hopefully, this season, he can add an FA Cup to his tally after reaching last year’s final.
