Kambwala 9, Mainoo 8: player ratings from Manchester United 2-2 Liverpool

Manchester United have dented Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League this season, with Jurgen Klopp’s men missing their chance to move to the summit of the division this afternoon.

Erik ten Hag was forced to name another makeshift backline for the visit of their fierce rivals, with Willy Kambwala coming in after Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans both joined Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez in the treatment room earlier this week.

Jurgen Klopp’s men took the lead in the first half but the Reds turned it around with goals in the second half. Bruno Fernandes’ stunning 45-yard strike put the hosts back on level terms, with Kobbie Mainoo’s insane curler giving them the lead.

United ended up giving their lead away once more and yet again, it was late in the game and by way of an unnecessarily conceded penalty.

Man United Player Ratings

Andre Onana – 7
Could do nothing about either of the goals, really. Made some great stops.

Diogo Dalot – 7
Recovered well from his late mistake at Chelsea.

Harry Maguire – 8
Enjoying a good season, took the role of one of the more senior players.

Willy Kambwala – 9
One of the best players on the pitch. What a way to make a name for yourself.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6
Rash decision-making and poor timing, gave away the crucial penalty.

Casemiro – 7
A tough second season for the Brazil international but against Liverpool, he was good.

Kobbie Mainoo – 8
We’re running out of words to describe this kid. What a talent.

Alejandro Garnacho – 7
Put in through on goal in the first few minutes and had the ball in the net. Unfortunately, the ball played to him was a tad late and the goal was disallowed. Dangerous outlet throughout.

Bruno Fernandes – 8
What a goal. Carries himself as a captain, and lays down the standard. Made things happen on the counter-attack.

Marcus Rashford – 6
Struggling to find his place in this side. Hopefully, he enjoys a good end to the season.

Rasmus Hojlund – 6
Has not quite got back to speed since his injury and that’s unfortunate. Prior to the injury, he scored in six consecutive Premier League games.
