Erik ten Hag used his pre-match press conference to urge his underperforming Manchester United players to “bring big games over the line” ahead of our Premier League clash with arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The manager, who is under mounting pressure to keep his job, spoke to reporters after watching his side drop five points from winning positions in their last two league games.
Thursday’s collapse against Chelsea felt like the final nail in the coffin for our Champions League hopes, but Ten Hag doesn’t want his players giving up and extra motivation shouldn’t be required when the Scousers are in town.
After recent results, United are 12 points adrift of Aston Villa in fourth and we’re level on points with West Ham.
Ten Hag has admitted his side needs to start getting over the line when leading games, however, it’s easy to see that the problem is we fail to control games. That is essentially why watching United has been so chaotic all season.
“We have to step up and make better decisions,” Ten Hag said, as per TNT Sports.
“We can play to a very high standard. We can compete with the best and beat the best in the Premier League. When you can do that, you can also do it across Europe.
“We need to learn how to bring big games over the line.
“We have to recover very quick[ly]. We have to turn this around. We will be in a positive mood and we will be looking forward [to it].
“We have to take energy but we will be mad, angry. From anger you can take a lot of energy and that is how we have to do it.”
