Pressure mounts on Ten Hag: Deplorable Chelsea defeat sees United break a 34-year loss record

Manchester United supporters will still be questioning how on Earth the club fell to a defeat at Stamford Bridge tonight.

The Red Devils clawed their way back from a 2-0 deficit to level the scoring before half-time, after which Alejandro Garnacho was able to complete his brace with a composed-headed finish courtesy of Antony’s scintillating trivela assist.

United then led Chelsea in the end-to-end clash until injury time, despite both sides firing shots left, right and centre on either end of the pitch. Diogo Dalot, who has been one of Erik ten Hag’s most reliable performers lately, was then adjudged to have fouled Noni Madueke in the penalty box, leading to Chelsea’s second spot-kick of the night.

Indeed, it was swiftly converted by boyhood Red Cole Palmer into the bottom-right corner. In the eleventh minute of stoppage time, Chelsea’s corner – taken by Enzo Fernandez – found the unmarked Palmer on the edge of the area, whose driven strike deflected off of Scott McTominay and sealed all three points in a climactic, unprecedented end to the night’s affairs.

The England international’s third goal marked the latest winning goal on record (100:39) in the Premier League, while United’s advantage heading into 99:17 minutes is the latest a team has ever led in a match before falling to a defeat.

Additionally, the loss is now the 17th of the season for Ten Hag and Co. – the first time since the 1989-90 season that the club have recorded such a feat.
