United confirm another layoff for Lisandro Martinez and one other player as club reach 53 separate cases of injury/illness

Manchester United have today confirmed that Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof will be out of action for around a month.

There were already concerns over Lindelof’s status given that he was hooked in the second half of the Reds’ draw with Brentford last Saturday, leaving the pitch around the 69th-minute mark after sustaining a hamstring problem.

Martinez then made his long-awaited return to action after eight weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury when he replaced his counterpart in the second half. He has, however, picked up a calf strain in training this week and been dealt a further layoff for around a month, which is also the same timeframe given to the Sweden international.

The club have now recorded an unprecedented 53 separate cases of injury or illness this season, with Samuel Luckhurst claiming that some members of the team are ‘concerned by training intensity’.

United take on Chelsea this Thursday at Stamford Bridge before hosting Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. An FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City is also penned in for mid-April at Wembley, so Erik ten Hag can expect a slightly depleted squad for that fixture, too.

  1. Something not adding up here. If these injuries – or even some of them – are being caused by intensity of training; then how many more before penny drops with ETH?
And what good is this training doing when we still getting outclassed by teams who simply show greater desire, Brentford being most recent example?
Yes: Manchester United outfought by Brentford. What’s going on?? When will it stop?

  2. Another point: McClaren was there during the glory years – what’s his input on this? Must have an opinion, or what’s he there for?
Are the training sessions now harder than under Fergie, in which case S.M. should be piping up? If not, then those players complaining of tiredness need to be told to grow a pair, or need to be shipped out. Sure, squad needs strengthening, but best immediate use of the new money is to pay off the contracts of any who obviously don’t want to be there: ship them out. Infuriating to have to do so, but if need be, let’s amputate the limb to save the body

    1. these are hypotheticals, no-one truly knows teh reason. however there have apparently been leaks that the training sessions are too intense, as fans we can only speculate if this is true (why wouldn’t they be true?), but we have many many injuries – it should also be taken into account how united play, with complete chaos – running up and down the pitch constantly – these are certainly things that ca lead to more injuries – and that is certainly on ETH.

I just want to add that last night brighton restricted Brentford to 5 shots the whole game and 33% posession.

the problem is ETH not the players – if united fans can’t see that he is a major problem by now then they never will.

fortunately there is absoutely no chance ETH will be there next season, and that is the only positive to take!
