‘Agreed terms’ – Romano: United is ‘the only club’ for new pivotal arrival whom they pipped Liverpool to

Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Southampton’s director of football Jason Wilcox.

Terms have already been agreed between Wilcox and United as they look to make him their new technical director.

It would come as the latest arrival in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s complete reshuffle of the club’s hierarchy, which has shown his desire to put the wheels in motion on a much-needed revamp from the moment his minority stake was ratified.

The likes of Omar Berrada and Dan Ashworth are expected to play vital roles during a new era under INEOS, and the Old Trafford faithful aren’t used to seeing such radical changes implemented by the club’s owners, given the Glazers’ tumultuous 19-year reign.

As for Wilcox, he was also believed to be the subject of a late approach from Liverpool, though Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that United is ‘the only club’ for him.

The Reds have proposed a fee worth a year of Wilcox’s salary to prise him from St. Mary’s and are of the belief that this would meet a buyout clause included in his contract terms. Southampton dispute this sentiment and value him at ‘substantially more in compensation’.

Seemingly, Southampton are resigned to losing their man so are willing to negotiate a deal, although there is a roadblock in talks, as it stands.
