‘We shouldn’t give it away’ – Ten Hag reacts to disappointing result vs Brentford

Erik ten Hag oversaw a poor Manchester United performance at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Although Mason Mount gave the Reds a shock 1-0 lead in the 96th minute, we were fortunate to come away from the game against Brentford with a point.

Kristoffer Ajer equalised moments later and the Bees felt they deserved three points after inflicting more than 30 shots on Andre Onana’s goal.

Ten Hag addressed the media after United’s 1-1 draw with Brentford and admitted that Brentford wanted it more than his players on the night. He has a point considering the difference in energy shown between the two teams.

“We shouldn’t give it away,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports after the match.

The manager made a good point when he cited the recent two-week break as a factor in United’s poor display, adding: “After the international break, the levels are never as high as before.”

International breaks shouldn’t exist in March when it’s the business end of the domestic season. Can you imagine taking a week-long break before the European Championships for some pre-season friendlies? No, that would be ridiculous.
