Scott McTominay has heaped praise on Manchester United team-mate Kobbie Mainoo after the 18-year-old made his senior England debut against Brazil.
McTominay, who recently won the Scotland Player of the Year award after helping guide the nation to the Euro 2024 finals, believes the “sky is the limit” for Mainoo amid calls for the young midfielder to be part of Gareth Southgate’s squad this summer.
Mainoo earned his first call-up to the England squad for the March internationals, which is why it feels early to be talking about him playing a part in a major competition which kicks off in a few months. I’m not saying he’s not good enough because he is, but we know how the English media jump on young players when they’re developing.
The midfield ace impressed in his brief cameo in the centre of the pitch and he will be looking forward to earning more caps for the Three Lions. It just remains to be seen if he will be going to Euro 2024.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Scotland’s friendly against Northern Ireland tomorrow evening, McTominay revealed the “sky is the limit” for his 18-year-old team-mate.
He adds that Mainoo deserved his call up to the senior squad.
“He’s been so good,” McTominay told reporters, as seen in the video below courtesy of Sky Sports News.

McTominay went on to advise Mainoo to keep him head down and concentrate on his own development in order to fulfil his potential.
