Ally McCoist has always been fond of Scott McTominay due to his performances for the Scotland national team, and the midfielder has also been one of Manchester United’s most reliable assets this season.
While a starting role has been hard to come by for McTominay in recent months, he’s got his head down and continued to provide vital contributions for the Red Devils. He’s now on an outstanding total of nine goals and three assists for the term, second only to Rasmus Hojlund, who has netted 13 times in all competitions.
McTominay’s off-the-bench heroics in the Premier League have directly claimed seven points – the most of any substitute this campaign.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring in last Sunday’s emphatic FA Cup triumph over Liverpool as he was in the perfect place to capitalise on Alejandro Garnacho’s rebounded shot. He went on to set up Marcus Rashford for his extra-time equaliser before Amad Diallo lifted the roof off of Old Trafford with his last-gasp winner.
McCoist: Give McTominay his flowers
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist lauded the Carrington graduate yet again by saying: “Do you know who I think, honestly, I’m not sure he gets the credit he deserves, McTominay.
“We talk about it and say what’s the first thing a new manager is going to do – he’s going to bring in a midfielder, do this and change that. I don’t think McTominay has ever, ever let United down.”
