Raphael Varane yet to recieve contract proposal from Manchester United

Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane faces an uncertain future.

The Frenchman has had his struggles with not just injuries but also his form this season, however, there has been a noticeable improvement since the start of 2024.

Varane had fallen out of favour under Erik ten Hag, though now he is back in the manager’s good books, and we can all see why.

The former France international has re-established himself as a regular, with 28 appearances to his name so far this season, although United decided in December not to activate the automatic extension to his contract.

ESPN suggested that United would be open to agreeing an extension with the player, albeit on lower terms.

There is no agreement so far, with Fabrizio Romano underlining that there has been no confirmation about the Frenchman receiving a proposal from United based on appearances.

The Italian reporter understands that United have currently not sent any new deal proposal to Varane, and that no negotiations are taking place yet.

Varane’s current deal expires in three months.

Time to move on

Although Varane has been performing well since the turn of the year, I look at a lot of our defenders and view them as past their time. We need to improve the entire department and Varane is one of the high earners I’d get rid of in the summer.

It feels telling that United have yet to make an offer to Varane.

Perhaps similar to the David de Gea situation of last year and he left the club.
