Shearer lauds United’s ‘unbelievable talent’ after determined, resilient showing vs Liverpool

Marcus Rashford displayed his resilience last night after squandering one huge opportunity that could’ve stopped the FA Cup clash from going to extra-time.

The Manchester United star latched onto an inch-perfect pass from Christian Eriksen in the 94th minute and took one touch before dragging his shot wide of the post, although it’s believed that even had it gone in, it would’ve been flagged for offside.

Amends were made when he fired home a low, driven strike past Caoimhin Kelleher to bring the tie back level to 3-3 following Harvey Elliott’s contribution in extra-time. Amad Diallo went on to clinch the Reds’ semi-final spot in the dying minutes, lifting the roof off of Old Trafford and dampening Jurgen Klopp’s farewell tour in the process.

It’s always been clear that Rashford, 26, often struggles with an internal battle over his self-confidence when things aren’t going his way in front of goal, so it’s refreshing to see that he was able to pick himself up, put his head down and have a game-changing impact.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Alan Shearer said of the No.10: “There is unbelievable talent there, we know that. The one he missed, you could see the agony on his face, but as a forward, you know that if you miss one you always get the opportunity to rectify that and it was a great finish when it came to him.”
