Mark Robins’ love affair with FA Cup continues after dramatic win over Wolves

Coventry City stunned Premier League side Wolves with two goals in injury time to seal a dramatic 3-2 win and book a first FA Cup semi-final appearance since 1987, under Mark Robins.

The Championship outfit went on to win football’s oldest competition that season and they kept their hopes of another unlikely triumph this season alive at Molineux.

Saturday’s clash looked like it would end in tears for Coventry after two goals in the final ten minutes from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno overturned Ellis Simms’ opener and seemed to set Wolves on their way to Wembley.

That was until Simms grabbed a second for Coventry and then Haji Wright earned himself a place in the history books by netting the winner.

There is, of course, a bit of a Manchester United-slanted backstory to his one.

Many of you will remember how Sir Alex Ferguson was supposedly one game from the sack after four years in charge at Old Trafford.

In 1990, United came into a third-round FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest sitting 15th in the league, having already crashed out of the League Cup. It was suggested by some media outlets at the time that Ferguson would be sent his marching orders if he lost against Forest.

United won the game in the end, 1-0 thanks to a Mark Robins header.

The win proved to be a turning point in the club’s history and now we are all firmly of the belief that Ferguson was the greatest manager of all-time.

Furthermore, Tobin scored the winning goal in the semi-final against Oldham as United went all the way to win the trophy.

The 54-year-old is now Coventry’s manager and he has guided them to the FA Cup semi-finals. It’s a fantastic achievement and we wish them luck in the next round, so long as they’re not playing us.

United need to get over Sunday’s hurdle of facing Liverpool first.
