Manchester United star faces hit worth almost £1m after investing in fiancee’s firm

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay faces a hit of nearly £1 million after one of his investments backfired, according to reports.

Fortress Capital Partners, a failed firm run by McTominay’s fiancée Cameron Reading and her dad Ashley, went bust last year.

The Sun claims that they ended up owing a whopping £18 million, which meant 230 people were left out of pocket, and now McTominay stands to get back just £100,000 after administrators confirmed investors are expected to get just 10p of every £1 they put in.

Richard Moriarty reports: “It borrowed from investors including Boyzone star Shane Lynch, then lent it out at higher interest rates.”

The 47-year-old singer is believed to be owed £730,000.

It is also understood that they borrowed money from Gareth Southgate’s agent Terry Byrne, as per the Daily Mail.

For those that lost the money, it’s obviously a major blow, but all of these firms take risks and I don’t think it will take too long for McTominay to get saving again… It’s pretty blatant the tabloids are trying painting it as a story to tarnish the United star’s reputation when they know well that business is risk and reward.

Plus, it’s not like the Scotland international worked for Fortress Capital Partners on a day-to-day basis.

One who lost thousands as a result of Fortress Capital Partners told The Sun: “There is a photo of Cam blowing a kiss with a glass of Champagne at a Claridge’s hotel room with Scott. It really rubs salt in the wound for those of us who’ve lost our life savings or face losing their homes.

“There’s another pic from Instagram of Ashley, his wife, Cam and her sister. They always seemed to be going on holiday. At one point, they were in Dubai for months and months.”

Whoever released that the newspapers is forgetting McTominay plays for United, so I’m sure he can put money aside for risky investments as well as bottles of champagne.
