MUTV pundits hail Manchester United star playing out of position

Manchester United kept another clean sheet in their win over Everton on Saturday at Old Trafford.

It wasn’t a good performance from the Reds by any means, but defensively we were sound and Andre Onana made some important saves. The Cameroon international has received plenty of plaudits since the Africa Cup of Nations and nobody can say it’s underserved as he recorded his eight Premier League clean sheet of the campaign.

The game was won by two goals from the penalty spot. Alejandro Garnacho was took down twice inside the box and the penalties were converted by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

One defender was singled out for praise on MUTV after the match and it would be fair to say his performance went under the radar.

Scoring a SofaScore of 7.3 against Everton, Victor Lindelof was yet again asked to fill the void at left-back and he kept Jack Harrison quiet on the flank. The Swede was praised by former United academy graduates Fraizer Campbell and Phil Bardsley.

The pair analysed Lindelof’s performance in the 2-0 win for the Matchday Review show on MUTV.

Campbell said (as quoted by United In Focus): “He was brilliant.

“He’s not let his man have time or space, [Jack] Harrison, who started on the right fot them, he’s a good player, he could have caused us a lot of problems, he snuffed that out. He did really well.

“That’s exactly what the manager wants. He wants people he can trust when he picks them, whatever position they play in, to do a job for him. He’s demonstrating that by playing left-back.”

Lindelof deserves the praise after Saturday’s performance, although there’s a big challenge coming up this weekend when Liverpool come to Old Trafford for the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Bardsley added: “I thought Lindelof was fantastic playing out of position, it’s never easy, especially for a right-footed player at left-back, and a centre-half. He was fantastic, alongside Jonny [Evans].”

United will have to wait another while until Luke Shaw returns from injury and we haven’t seen Tyrell Malacia all season.
