Liverpool defender could return for FA Cup clash at Old Trafford

Jurgen Klopp revealed that Ibrahima Konate has a ‘good chance’ of returning from injury in time for Liverpool’s trip to Manchester United in the FA Cup next Sunday.

Konate was forced off with a thigh injury sustained in the second-half of Liverpool’s Europa League victory away at Sparta Prague last Thursday.

The French centre-back missed Sunday’s title-contender clash against Man City at Anfield, which meant Klopp had to call upon youngster Jack Quansah to step up to the plate to earn his side a point. As a result, Arsenal remain top of the Premier League – ahead of Liverpool solely on goal difference.

It will be the final match for United and Liverpool before the international break and Klopp has now confirmed that Konate could return for the eagerly awaited clash at Old Trafford.

When asked in his post-match press conference if Konate’s injury was deemed serious, Klopp said (via The Metro): “No, no. Ibou has a chance for United. A good chance.”

This will obviously come as a boost for Liverpool. Can you imagine if we were getting Lisandro Martinez or Luke Shaw back in time for next week?

I’d even take Tyrell Malacia at the rate, although one could be forgiven of forgetting the Dutch international’s ability as a footballer. It’s been that long since he’s made an appearance for United.
