Manchester United loanee returns to club prematurely after manager voices criticism over his ‘productivity’

Manchester United youngster Maxi Oyedele has reportedly returned to the club prematurely following the termination of his loan spell.

The 19-year-old signed for Forest Green Rovers in January after agreeing to spend the remainder of the campaign on loan with the struggling League Two outfit.

Oyedele arrived at The New Lawn on January 17, 2024

He was acquired by then-head coach Troy Deeney, though the former Watford frontman has since been relieved of his managerial duties and subsequently replaced by Steve Cotterill.

Oyedele, who has been in United’s youth system since 2012, featured just four times for the 23rd-placed side. His last outing was against Crawley Town when he came off the bench to make a 35-minute cameo – his longest appearance for the club – as Rovers fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Rovers boss displeased with Oyedele’s showing

Post-match, Cotterill addressed the teenager’s showing with an unimpressed verdict, saying: “He has to do a lot more to get in the starting line-up. I didn’t feel there was enough productivity from him in the second half.”

Alas, Mail Sport now claims that Oyedele has been sent back to Manchester months ahead of his scheduled return date and has already picked up where he left off in the U21s.
