‘A nightmare’: United man labelled ‘worst on the pitch’ after woeful showing in Manchester derby

Sofyan Amrabat is sparking concerns at his parent club Fiorentina amidst a lacklustre loan spell with Manchester United.

The Moroccan’s underwhelming showings in red have already decided his Old Trafford future; it is believed that United currently have no intention of making Amrabat’s deal permanent at the end of the campaign and will opt against activating the £21.4 million buy clause included in his terms.

He has made 21 appearances in total under Erik ten Hag this term; 13 of those came in the Premier League and only seven of which were as a starter. Amrabat ranks behind emerging starlet Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro and Scott McTominay in the pecking order, so he has found regular game time hard to come by in his preferred position as a holding midfielder.

The 27-year-old has, at times, been forced to deputise for sidelined left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, and it’s evident that he’s looked out of sorts when deployed in the backline.

His latest outing in last Sunday’s Manchester derby was nothing short of woeful when his error led to him being quickly dispossessed by Rodri, who then set up Erling Haaland for an injury-time goal to make it 3-1 in City’s favour.

Amrabat heavily criticised by Italian media

All eyes will be on Amrabat back in Italy to gauge how he’s faring in England’s top flight and judging by one report, the media were far from impressed with what they saw over the weekend.

Corriere Fiorentino (relayed by Sport Witness) declared that his situation is ‘becoming a nightmare’ after he ‘managed to be the worst on the pitch’ at the Etihad, adding that Amrabat is now ‘lost in the Manchester fog’. Yikes.
