‘We can go toe-to-toe with them’ – Ten Hag believes his players can match Man City

Erik ten Hag has made it clear he believes his Manchester United squad can match Premier League champions Man City in the eagerly awaited derby.

Despite trailing their rivals by 15 points, Erik ten Hag is confident that United can reclaim their dominance in the future, but first there’s a lot of work to do and the manager also needs backing from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Ineos Sports group.

Ten Hag leads his team to the Etihad on Sunday with a strong belief in our ability to compete with England’s best team at the moment.

Kick-off is at 3.30pm GMT.

Speaking to reporters at his press conference, Ten Hag said (via The Guardian): “At the same time, we know where we are now. We’ve also seen that there are moments where we go toe-to-toe, so that’s the belief we have as a team.

“We have to pick up those moments and we have to prove it in every game and I think we’re able to with this squad we have, that we can go toe-to-toe with them. The short history shows that.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently made comments about knocking City off their perch, with the aim being to restore United’s dominance in English football and beyond.

Hopefully, that involves Ten Hag but he needs to win football matches to keep his job.

  1. They can go toe to toe alright. Then after kick off, they can bend over and touch their toes while City slide in and put them in their place.
