Teenage United starlet rewarded for prolific form by receiving call-up to senior national team

Alejandro Garnacho has been rightfully rewarded for his prolific club form by receiving a call-up for Argentina’s forthcoming fixtures.

The Manchester United starlet missed out on international duty during the November break due to a slow start to the season, with head coach Lionel Scaloni justifying his decision by stating: “It’s a football issue. We don’t like to bring players in and constantly leave them out or leave them out of the squad. Everyone wants to be there and it’s great, but the human side plays and you have to make decisions.”

Garnacho, 19, has been awarded three senior caps for his country after making his debut in June 2023 but will be keen to add more minutes to his tally when the world champions face El Salvador and Costa Rica later this month.

Garnacho’s development continuing its upward trajectory

Erik ten Hag evidently rates the youngster highly given that he has now started 23 consecutive matches in all competitions, keeping his £86 million senior counterpart Antony out of the starting 11. Garnacho has notched seven goals and three assists across 35 appearances this term, which are impressive numbers considering he only broke through to the first team last season.
