‘I cannot believe this’ – Manchester United legend slams club and threatens to get rid of season tickets

Manchester United legend Gordon Hill says he is “not happy” with the club’s decision to relocate him, therefore, he is not planning to renew his season tickets at Old Trafford.

Hill, a legendary figure at the club as a member of the 1977 FA Cup-winning side, has held his United season ticket for 28 years, meaning his name is on a silver plaque on his seat.

But he has been told he will have to move location for next season as United restructure hospitality areas at the stadium, with the aim to accommodate current players’ families.

In a series of posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, Hill wrote: “Looks like I will not be taking my season tickets after having them from 1996, and being told you will be relocated. I can not believe this from a club I represented and played my heart out for. I was given a reason which was bloody ridiculous. I will be speaking to Jim. Not happy.

Hill added: “Just to follow up on this decision. I used these for family who are United followers, wow the reason was to allow for Academy and the women’s players. Hold on did I not deserve my seats. The people who make decisions have lost me now.

“Just a phone call, we are relocating you, absolutely shameful.

“My advise [sic] for the club is relocate some of the players playing today.

“Just to put the records straight, I am not a legend just a player from a family of 11 who loved to play football and scoring and and enjoying every moment.”

This means that several season ticket holders in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand (section S122) have been informed they will need to relocate, causing upset for Hill as well as fellow club legend Norman Whiteside.

Whiteside’s wife Dee took to social media to brand the decision to move her husband an “absolute disgrace”.

Discussions took place and Whiteside has since agreed to have his season ticket relocated at Old Trafford.

A United spokesperson said (via The Daily Star): “We have the greatest respect for Norman as a legend of the club, and understand the disappointment caused to him and other season ticket-holders by seat relocations.

“These happen for various reasons, including, next season, the moving of matchday hospitality seats into consolidated blocks to address fan concerns about them being dispersed around the stadium.

“Other changes next season include the removal of hospitality seating from the Stretford End and installation of further rail seating in the North-West Quadrant, bringing benefits to many fans but also causing some disruption.

“No additional hospitality seats are being created at the expense of season ticket-holders – in fact hospitality seating will reduce by more than 500 next season.

“We are committed to working with all season ticket-holders affected by relocations, including Norman, to find them the best possible alternative seats elsewhere in the ground.

“We worked with Norman to find him a good alternative seat – and he’s happy with the outcome.”

We can only assume that United will try to do the same with Hill. Hopefully it will be resolved.
