Update on the future of Erik ten Hag at Man United amid sack rumours

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag may be facing mounting pressure at Old Trafford, and Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton & Hove Albion is supposedly being considered to take his position.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has now updated us on United’s interest in De Zerbi and INEOS’ position on ten Hag.

Manchester Evening News reported that INEOS are examining possible ten Hag replacements in the event that they decide to go ahead and sack the Dutch manager. The article also states that United are considering Brighton boss De Zerbi.

Italian journalist Romano responded to this new story in his Daily Briefing, stating that INEOS would allow ten Hag time to grow at the club.

“My understanding remains that there is nothing concrete to these kinds of stories – Man United are giving Ten Hag time and space to develop his football and his ideas, he also confirmed a very good relationship with INEOS. He has to keep going at the best level in the next three months, that’s obviously important. I’m sure in this time we’ll continue to have many stories about this, but for now, nothing is happening.”

With United’s most recent Premier League performance, new speculation regarding ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford has surfaced.

The defeat against Fulham at Old Trafford has affected the whole mood around the club. Things were looking encouraging after the unbeaten start to 2024 but the injury to Rasmus Hojlund and then the latest defeat has left United eight points behind a top four place in the league.
