Erik ten Hag and Marcus Rashford barely on speaking terms

Marcus Rashford’s relationship with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is believed to have broken down after the forward’s night out in Belfast.

The England international missed United’s FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest last month, having been spotted on a night out in Belfast reportedly fuelled with tequila before calling in sick and missing training the next day.

Ten Hag was adamant at the time the situation had been dealt with, case closed, and that they were both going to move on from it.

Now, The Sun reports Rashford’s actions have had a lasting consequence because Ten Hag is described as being “furious” at the player while also “deceived” by his decision to lie about exactly when he returned from the trip to Belfast.

Rashford returned to the team for the following match against Wolves and scored the opener five minutes in, but the report claims the pair are still not on speaking terms.

Some members of United’s staff fear their relationship has been broken beyond repair.

It’s never a good sign when a manager under pressure is falling out with star players. We can’t forget that Rashford is also a close ally of Jadon Sancho, who fell out with Ten Hag earlier this season.

Rashford has managed five goals and four assists so far this season. He needs to finish the campaign strongly if United are to end the campaign on a strong note.
