Scott McTominay, in Jeff Stelling’s opinion, offers Manchester United something that few of his teammates do.

After a bright start to 2024, Manchester United’s optimism came crashing after the disappointing defeat against Fulham.

The team led by Erik ten Hag had gone seven games unbeaten to start the year and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group officially took over football operations last week.

But Fulham gave United a harsh awakening as they won 2-1 at Old Trafford with Alex Iwobi scoring the winner in the 97th minute.

Although there have been rumours that a number of players would be sold this summer as part of the Ineos’ reconstruction, Scott McTominay shouldn’t be one of them.

That’s according to Jeff Stelling, who thinks the midfield player gives the team a certain quality.

While talking about which players United should cut, Ally McCoist and Stelling were having a chat on TalkSPORT when they got to talking about McTominay.

McCoist said: “I’m keeping him all day.”

To which Stelling continued: “It’s his attitude though that would mean that you would keep him because when he’s on the pitch.

“Unlike one or two of the United squad, he gives it all and you can see he gives it all. I would keep him as well.”

Even if McTominay isn’t the most technically proficient player, he can offer a unique perspective to the team that may be beneficial, and he has proven himself worthy of a role this season.

The Scottish midfielder has won 12 points for Man United in the Premier League this season, more than any other player has done for his team in the league. That’s how crucial he has been.
