Casemiro has high praise for Kobbie Mainoo

One could say that there is a passing of the torch happening in the Manchester United midfield right before our eyes. Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who recently turned 32, has been playing alongside 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo in recent weeks. One is a grizzled veteran while the other is brand new to the Premier League. Yet, it’s the youngster who is making a bigger impression on the veteran than the other way around.

Even after his first competitive match, Casemiro had high praise for Mainoo. Up until United’s recent loss to Fulham, the two were partners together in five consecutive matches, resulting in five wins for the Red Devils.

As he moves toward the end of his career, Casemiro, boasts an impressive resume, clinching five Champions League titles and nearly every major trophy during his illustrious tenure in Spain.

On the other hand, Mainoo, a mere 18 years old, has recently made his mark in the first-team squad, scoring his debut senior goal in January. Taking each match in his stride, the Carrington graduate has managed to edge out senior midfield counterparts like Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen, and Sofyan Amrabat from the starting lineup.

Mainoo’s consistently outstanding performances have swiftly propelled him to one of the most sought-after prospects in global football. Needless to say, that has happened much to the delight of Old Trafford supporters, who consider themselves fortunate to have him as one of their own. Casemiro feels the same way about having Mainoo as a teammate.

“He’s only 18 and he’s already a starter at a club like Manchester United,” Casemiro recently told the Manchester United club website. “It’s not easy, there’s a lot of pressure. But I think United will have a top player for the next [few] years, easily. He’s a top player. He’s exceptional. He’s a humble, hard-working player. He knows how to listen. He’s a great player.”

Obviously, the current Manchester United campaign hasn’t gone as expected for the Red Devils. Most soccer betting sites are bullish when it comes to United’s odds of winning the Premier League or even qualifying for next season’s Champions League. However, the emergence of Mainoo can surely be considered a silver lining for the season. Just ask Casemiro.

“Since I play alongside him, I know Manchester United will have one of the best midfielders in the Premier League,” Casemiro says. “I think we have to recognise his value. He’s a great kid. I’m very happy that he’s on our side. As long as he keeps his head on straight, just as he’s doing now, I think we’ll have a great player for many, many years here at United.”
