‘Worst player on the pitch’: United loanee leaves fans ‘disappointed’ with yet another ‘poor performance’ in defeat

Jadon Sancho’s loan with Borussia Dortmund is certainly not going the way he’d have hoped when he departed Manchester United last month.

The 23-year-old exited Old Trafford in the January window to rejoin his former club until the end of the campaign, having engaged in a public feud with Erik ten Hag and seen himself exiled from all first-team action and facilities.

When making the switch to Germany, Sancho had only made three Premier League appearances. His last outing in red came on August 26 against Nottingham Forest before he was dropped for the subsequent trip to face Arsenal, which led to the fallout with his manager.

Dortmund supporters were over the moon with the acquisition of their former starboy, whose career-best form has come in the black and yellow of the Bundesliga outfit, however, he’s yet to replicate anywhere near the performances he was able to put in across his first stint.

After registering an assist in his second debut against Darmstadt before adding another against FC Koln the next week, the winger tallied no further goal contributions in the five matches that followed.

Sancho comes under fire after lacklustre shift

He came under fire for his unspirited showing on Saturday as the fourth-placed side fell to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Hoffenheim, with German outlet Der Westen writing: “BVB was so happy when Jadon Sancho was brought back during the last winter transfer period. The prodigal son is finally back.

“He really sent the fans into a state of euphoria. A few weeks later there is no sign of it anymore. Against TSG Hoffenheim (2:3), the supporters hoped that the 23-year-old would finally score his first goal.

“But they were disappointed once again. The BVB star showed another poor performance against Hoffenheim and was probably the worst player on the pitch.”
