Alan Shearer says Fulham deserved their triumph at Old Trafford on Saturday after dominating Manchester United across the 90 minutes.

The Red Devils’ performance throughout the clash left a lot to be desired, with a portion of the fanbase claiming that it was one of their most lacklustre, uninspired showings of the season so far.

Fulham had not won away from home since the opening day of the campaign when they claimed a 1-0 win at Goodison Park, but still entered United’s territory with the utmost confidence that they could get one over on Erik ten Hag and his men, and that they did.

It marked the Cottagers’ first victory against United in any competition since December 2009, as well as their first one at the stadium since 2003.

Ten Hag’s questionable post-match verdict

Post-match, Maguire claimed that the first half was ‘pretty even’ while Ten Hag was confident that his players showed ‘great character’ – a sentiment that isn’t shared amongst the United faithful, nor Shearer, who shared his verdict while analysing Saturday’s affairs on the PL’s MatchDay Extra.

“I couldn’t disagree more with Harry Maguire and Erik ten Hag there,” he said.

“I thought Fulham really deserved to win that game. They missed so many chances. Then, for Fulham to get the winner in the way they did in the last couple of minutes, I thought they deserved it.”
