Alan Shearer couldn’t speak highly enough about Rasmus Hojlund’s showing against Luton Town.
The youngster etched his name into the Premier League history books after he broke the deadlock inside 40 seconds at Kenilworth Road, becoming the youngest-ever player to score in six consecutive matches (21 years and 14 days old).
His opener saw him latch onto a gift of a loose ball and eventually slot it calmly past Thomas Kaminski. He added to his tally to complete a brace just six minutes later, and it was certainly one that caught viewers’ eyes; Hojlund cleverly adjusted his body to send Alejandro Garnacho’s wayward shot on target and into the back of the net.
To say he was made to wait 14 matches to open his account, you’d now think he’d been in the division for years given how he’s taking it by storm each week.
The Dane’s contributions have catapulted United into the top-four race, a prospect that was entirely unthinkable over the tumultuous first half of the campaign.
Shearer lauds United’s star man
Shearer is one former player who knows a thing or two about clinical finishing given that he ranks as the league’s all-time top goalscorer with 260 to his name, and speaking on The Rest Is Football, he said of Hojlund: “You know what? He showed great character. He really has. He has never stopped. His attitude has been superb, and now he is getting his rewards for that. Six games on the spin.
“I thought he was brilliant today. I thought his hold-up play, apart from his two goals, I mean, his second one was a really clever finish, really clever, it was brilliant, I mean, there was no fluke about that at all, he knew what he was doing, where he was and what he had to do, but take away his two goals, I thought every other part of his game, I thought was excellent today.
“He led the line well, he worked his socks off, he brought people into the game because Luton basically went man for man at times.”
