‘It’s nice to see’: Premier League captain sensationally admits he wants to see United ‘be a top team’ again

Fulham captain Tom Cairney has sensationally admitted that Manchester United returning to their former dominant status would benefit the Premier League.

For the Old Trafford faithful, it’s been an incredibly tedious 10-year – soon to be 11 – wait to see the team take the top division by storm and end it by lifting the title again, especially when considering that in that time, fierce rivals Manchester City and Liverpool have won seven between them (six for City and one for the Merseyside outfit).

The Reds’ tumultuous start to the 2023/2024 campaign now, surprisingly, has opened up the prospect of claiming a European football spot. Something that was entirely off the cards prior to Christmas is now within somewhat of a touching distance, and the side currently boast a three-game winning streak heading into Sunday’s fixture.

It was last week’s triumph over Aston Villa that had supporters optimistic again, as United closed their gap on the fifth-placed side to five points while making them just six points adrift of the top four.

United must get back on their perch

Cairney was clearly keeping tabs on the clash and while speaking to The Players Channel, confessed that he was pleased to see Erik ten Hag’s men reign victorious.

“I want Man United to be a top team, just for the Premier League in general,” the skipper divulged. “I am enjoying watching them again. I thought they were good against Villa.

“I just feel like going forward they are a threat and it’s nice to see, it’s refreshing to see Man United going forward again and scoring goals even though their top goalscorer is a midfield player.”
