‘It’s his game’: Rio Ferdinand predicts resurgent United ace will start and excel against Luton Town

Manchester United are gearing up for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Luton Town and Rio Ferdinand is already expecting one player to excel.

Harry Maguire returned to action at the beginning of February after missing six matches (all competitions) through a groin injury. He made a four-minute cameo off the bench in his initial comeback and went on to start the subsequent two matches.

His form this season has been nothing short of resurgent and he’s certainly been silencing his critics – even if the club’s form has been tumultuous at times. The England international was able to take the widespread negativity on the chin as well as come to terms with a reduced role last term followed by losing the captaincy in the summer. At this stage, his character and mental strength cannot be questioned.

Maguire’s performance against Aston Villa last time out was deemed so top draw that he pipped the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay to claim the Player of the Match award and this weekend, Ferdinand predicts another spirited showing from the centre-half.

“I’m going to go out and say United definitely win that game,” Ferdinand declared on VIBE with FIVE. “Because I think if they’re going to play Maguire at the back, that’s the game for him.

“Defend your box, the ball’s going to be launched in there, a couple of big boys and bodies to fight… I think it’s his game.”
